Gilberts and Son farm in Willingham, Cambridge

Printer FriendlyTell a Friend

A farm in Cambridge with three farm houses was heated via one 30kw oil boiler and two 20kw oil boilers one for each property.
All three oil boilers were removed, making way for one 50kw wood chip boiler located centrally between the three properties. With runs of 180 metres left and right in each direction from the boiler house(360m in total), Eco Link laid district heating pipe work to connect the properties to the boiler. Eco Link then connected to the existing heating systems all ready in place within the three properties.
The boiler room and fuel store were located in an old disused stable block with a size of 7m x 4m. The farm grows willow for use in the manufacture of cricket bats, leaving enough waste wood to be chipped on site and used as the fuel for the heating of the farm houses.
The combined fuel bill for all three houses of £14,000 was reduced to £550 which is the cost for chipping the waste wood on the farm.
