Manchester Airport
Eco Link Resources Ltd was commissioned to install a renewable energy and environmentally friendly solution at Manchester Airport’s new Visitor Centre to provide hot water, heating and water to the toilet block.
This solution included a 50kw biomass boiler to provide hot water and heating supported by Ecotubes (solar panels) and a rain water harvester to provide water to the toilet block. The overall savings achieved were energy savings of £1,804 pa and 80% of the mains water costs. This project importantly will deliver a saving of 19,406 kg of CO2 per year.
The 50kw boiler requires 20 tonnes of wood chip fuel per year from local timber sources at a cost of £950 p.a. This saves 6,120 litres of heating oil per year costing £2,754. The biomass boilers are designed and built to a very high specification and are extremely robust in construction, built to last for many years of trouble-free heating with little maintenance. All products are approved to EN305-3 and therefore may be installed all over Europe. With the lowest pollutant values and the highest efficiency levels, this boiler is clearly one of the best boilers in its class.
The Ecotubes installed will work in conjunction with the biomass boiler and provide hot water in the summer months. This technology reduces the biomass fuel consumption of the boiler by 15%.These Ecotubes from Riomay Ltd are highly efficient, making them capable of providing enough hot water for the most demanding facility. The panels are also virtually maintenance-free and have a life expectancy in excess of 30 years. The Ecotube has been designed to the highest performance specifications. It is the best system of its kind produced anywhere in the world, and will give many years of reliable service.
The Freerain rainwater harvesting system supplied to Eco Link Resources Ltd for this project incorporates a 6,000 litre above ground rainwater harvesting tank. The system collects rainwater from the roof of the building via a wall-mounted pre-tank filter, which filters the water up to non-potable standard. This water is then pumped up from the tank, through a control panel into a header tank, which then feeds the toilets by gravity. Due to the environment in which it is situated, the system can displace up to 80% of mains water within the building. Typical pay back for a commercial system is between 3-5 years.
Ken Smithers, MD of Eco Link Resources Ltd comments “We provide unique eco friendly solutions for our UK and European clients enabling them to harness the value of renewable energies including waste or by products to provide totally clean energy.
