With the old oil boiler at the end of its life, Smiths Hall on the Rookery Estates decided they would install biomass boiler. Eco Link was chosen to design the system and install the boiler. Eco Link designed and installed a district heating scheme, to heat the main hall, some 22,000 sqft, the estate office, two estate cottages, a large green house and outdoor swimming pool. The plant room and fuel store was also constructed by Eco Link, 160m from the main hall, completely out of sight. The plant room and fuel store was 15m in length 10m wide and 3.6 m high and was also used to house the garden tractor and on site wood chipper. Fuel use for the heating of the estate will come from the onsite woodlands and another estate in Bromley owned by Rookery Estates. The boiler sourced from Uniconfort in Italy produces 168kw of thermal energy, along with a 3000 litre accumlatator tank. This system satisfies 100% of the heating and hot water requirements on the Smiths Hall estate. Delivery of heat to the hall and cottages is through heat exchangers supplied by Boss and the district heating main was supplied by Unponor and installed by Eco Link.
